Taught by Sara McMullen-Laird.
Learn to make a series of platonic solids out of clay. Advanced students can work on transformations.
More about the platonic solids:
The 5 platonic solids have fascinated geometers for thousands of years. The shapes are named for the ancient Greek philosopher Plato who theorized that the classical elements were constructed from the regular solids as follows:
Tetrahedron (4 faces): Fire
Cube (6 faces): Earth
Octahedron (8 faces): Air
Dodecahedron (12 faces): Universe
Icosehedron (20 faces): Water
Each participant will engage in the process of forming the shapes themselves and connecting with the process of those archetypal formative forces. That activity has been experienced by many as strengthening and meditative.
The more advanced transformation exercises are a discovery process of how the forms are interrelated and reveal a deeper transformative truth about the very substance of our universe.
