Patient Organization

Thanks to our dedicated members, our Patient Organization is now the longest running of its kind in the world.

Be in charge of your health care!  If you are the kind of person who wants to take charge of the kind of care you and your family receive then you may be interested in this unique approach to care.  Some places it is called Direct Care but we have established an organization of patients, a patient collective you could say who are the ones in charge of how the resources are used.  An unprecedented idea even in the world of direct care models.

Why do you want to do this rather than  use regular insurance?

For many reasons including that you want to support anthroposophical medicine; you want there to be a place where patients can get the remedies in Ann Arbor; you want to have a relationship with a physician that you will see almost every time you come to the office; you want your health care resources to be used for care rather than for administration and regulations;  you want your records to be private and not the property of the insurance company or the government; you want to see your health as more than a symptom with a quick fix; you prefer anthroposophical remedies and homeopathy to allopathic drug solutions to most of your medical needs, etc.  (Perhaps you have your own ideas?)

You pay a monthly amount based on your financial situation and either for an individual or for a family.  Your visits to the office are covered and you receive other services we offer for free or at a discount.  We also  have books, body care and remedies at a discount to Patient Organization members.  Call the office for more information or email at csam@steinerhealth.org

The Patient Organization (P.O.) is a separate organization closely related to CSAM. It is a creative and participatory initiative, which began in January of 1998 with 37 families interested in addressing the health care of the group while fostering a sense of community. The P.O supports the anthroposophical therapeutic approach and has an annual membership structure in which families commit to paying a monthly fee. In return, the patient is entitled to all forms of treatment available from the practice as appropriate for their medical condition (excluding initial appointment). Services needed that are not offered by the practice are covered by the patients' supplementary insurance or paid for privately. The practice can work independently of conventional health insurance with this form of support from the P.O.

The P.O. decides as a group, which services it wants, and contracts with CSAM for these services. In this way each member contributes to the health of the community and in turn the community supports each member. Gathering for a CSAM class or sharing a potluck meal at a P.O meeting nurtures the growing community. This broad and inclusive approach to wellness and medicine provides a seed for the future, and a freer relationship between physician or therapist and patient.
